Besides, Gramya is also registered under FCRA, 1976 and 12AA of Income Tax Act.
The origin of GRAMYA SANSTHAN is an outcome of active work with women at grassroots level, thinking, reflecting as well as analyzing the socio-economic and political situation of women in the country. The lack of effective participation in decision making, discrimination based on gender, unequal rights, disrespect and lack of dignity, violation of women’s rights, and lack of political will for the respect of women as an equal citizen, silence of society on the issues of violence against women, etc., have led to the establishment of an organization that can address the issues as stated above.Further, it can bring its vision to the ground reality. Aiming this,Gramya came into existence in the year 1990, focusing its activities and work with the most marginalized people, i.e.,Tribals, Dalits and women in Uttar Pradesh.
At present, GRAMYA is working in the Chandauli, Varanasi, Sonbhadra and Allahabad districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is working on the issues of Child Rights, Rights of workers engaged in the unorganized sector, Rights of Adolescents and Youth, Women’s Health, Gender Equality and Violence against women and the rights of the marginalized and the Socially Excluded communities along with exploring the role of Men in bringing Gender Equality and addressing the issues on VAW.
Gramya networks with the social movements, human rights and grassroots development organizations to enforce the equal rights of the highly poor and marginalized communities, to challenge the oppression, exploitation and discrimination. Over the period, Gramya Sansthan has expanded its work from creating awareness to action oriented initiatives by the way of addressing various forms of human rights violations, violence against women, child rights, building women‘s leadership, women and adolescent health rights, education rights, etc., in order to access to gender justices and seek their legitimate rights and entitlements.
